WHAT'S COMING UP:
JANUARY
Saturday, January 12, 6pm-10pm - Griffins Game
Come join us for an evening at Van Andel Arena. Money ($10) is due Sunday, January 6.
Wednesday, January 16 - 6:30pm-8:30pm - Split - Tonight we will split. The girls will do a lesson together and the boys will do a seperate lesson.
Wednesday, January 23, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "Representing Jesus Every Day" - If you see someone sporting a jersey, a giant foam finger, and face paint of team colors, you'd likely guess that person's a fan of a specific sports team. When people look at our lives as followers of Jesus, what do they see? Do they see a life modeled after Jesus? Do our actions and attitudes represent God and point the way to Jesus? In this lesson, we will explore what it means to represent Jesus in our daily lives.
Wednesday, January 30, 5pm-7:30pm - Servants Church Service Project - We will be joining Impact this evening and will head to the west side of Grand Rapids to serve food at Servants Church. After we are done we will get supper at McDonalds. We will be done early this evening.
FEBRUARY
Wednesday, February 6, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "A New Command" - As we wrap up our "Better Together" series, we spend this lesson focusing on the "glue" of a healthy ministry or church-love. If we're committed to becoming a "body" and a "family" with deep, authentic friendships, we need love. It's more than just words or a feeling. It is primarily an action, and Jesus commands his followers to love one another. Jesus also tells us that non-Christians will know that we are his followers if we truly love one another through actions.
Wednesday, February 13, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "We Were Created As Sexual Beings" - God created us as sexual beings, but our culture takes the concept of sexuality-which God designed as a beautiful expression of love between a husband and a wife-and corrupts it into something else. Our culture bombards teenagers with confusing and untrue messages about sex, but this lesson will help us discover God's plan for our sexuality.
Friday, Feb. 15 (5:45pm)- Sunday, Feb. 17 (1pm)- Retreat at Grace Adventures - The theme for the retreat is Infiltrate: Go Behind Enemy Lines. In John 17:18 Jesus says that God gave him a mission, and now he's giving us a mission (MSG). We'll be entering the world of spies, intrigue and stealth to discover what it looks like to infiltrate the world as believers to complete the mission that God has entrusted us with. Pastor Tim Atkins, a popular returning Blast Speaker also known as the "Game Master" will be speaking for the weekend and Tommee Profitt will be leading worship.
Wednesday, February 20, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "Choose Wisely" - Sadly, many teenagers choose to believe our culture's lies about sex and abandon God's great plan for them. As we understand God's plan for healthy sexuality, we are forced to make a choice: Will we follow God's plans or our culture's plans? In this lesson, we will examine the importance of choosing wisely in this area of life.
Wednesday, February 27, 6:30pm-8:30pm - Split - This week we will split up. The girls will meet together and the boys will meet separately.
MARCH
Wednesday, March 6, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "Identify Your Pain and Struggles" - We've all experienced pain in life: physical pain, emotional pain, relational pain, and maybe even spiritual pain-our spiritual separation and the eternal separation we'll experience if we don't accept the gift of forgiveness through Jesus. We experience it in different ways and to different degrees, but it's part of being human because of how sin has damaged God's perfect plan for creation. Sometimes our pain hurts so much that we try to make it go away, or we hide from it, or we pretend it isn't there. If we don't deal with our pain, it will hurt other people-and it will continue hurt us. As we will discover in this lesson, God wants us to identify our hurts so he can heal them and help us pursue health and wholeness in our lives.
Wednesday, March 13, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "Discover The Source of Healing" - Some of the funniest movies turn painful moments into humorous highlights-it's easy and OK for us to laugh because a fictional character is experiencing the pain. In real life, however, pain is no laughing matter. The good news is that God is able to heal our pain, although it usually doesn't happen immediately and often requires a process of growth and change. This lesson will help your students take first steps in that direction-toward a life that is healed and healthy through Jesus.
Friday, March 15, 6:30pm-10:30pm - 3 Mile Project - We will be heading up to the Walker area to have some fun at the 3 Mile Project (click the link for more info. also fill out the 'student registration' link at the top of their website, if your youth has never been there before)
Wednesday, March 20, 6:30pm-8:30pm - Split - This week we will split up into girls only and boys only.
Wednesday, March 27, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "Help Others Experience Healing" - Once we've experienced God's healing in our lives or observed his healing in a friend's life, we have the opportunity to share that gift with other people. Our lives are more rewarding when we help people through a personal struggle or a really tough, painful time in life. This lesson will help us discover how God can use our experiences, hurts, struggles, wounds, and victories to help people around us.
APRIL
Wednesday, April 3, - NO A TO J (Spring Break Week)
Wednesday, April 10, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "Choosing Our Ultimate Role Model" - Most of us grew up with some sort of role model-a person we wanted to be JUST like. As followers of Jesus, we need solid role models, too-mature Christians we can emulate and imitate. Most importantly, we can look to Jesus as our ultimate role model. Jesus said it was possible for us to become like him, and he sent the Holy Spirit to give us the advice and help that we need. This lesson will help us discover that when we make Jesus our role model, we begin to see some amazing things happen around us.
Wednesday, April 17, 6:30pm-8:30pm - Split - This week we will split up. The girls will do something together and the boys will do something separate from the girls.
Saturday, April 20, 6pm-8pm - FUN NIGHT - Look back for more information.
Wednesday, April 24, 6:30pm-8:30pm - "You're One of Many Pieces" - Teenagers are battling to define themselves as individuals, yet they desperately want to fit in and belong. This tension is an opportunity to examine how the Bible defines the local church. In this lesson, we will see how the church is like a body and a family. We're members of a body and a family that experience life together through thick and thin. We're all important, vital, and needed.
